Summary
The chapter “The concert” describes the concert of maloya music at Bar Tropical. Anita is personally transported the concert, and conducts an enthusiastic interview with the musicians after the show. Denis Anicet, the owner of the bar, also has ancestry in Mauritius: initially, he privately judges Anita for being the type of immigrant, in his own estimation, who is too eager to assimilate into the French culture. However, Anita proves to subvert Denis’ expectations when she eagerly accepts the very strong traditional punch that is concocted by Adéle. Anita returns to the newspaper office that night to write the story, and is excited about its publication when she finally completes it at one in the morning.
