Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 6 (page 36), a young nurse in the burn unit avoids checking in on Eden because he was “Not alive, not dead, what it was didn’t have a name” (37). She preferred to watch his vitals from the monitors at the front desk, but guilt got the better of her, especially after Mary called to check in on him, so she unplugged a small fake Christmas tree and brought it to Eden’s room. She felt the need to touch Eden, despite his horrid wounds. His eyes were transfixed on the lights of the tree, and, after placing her finger on his chest, the nurse left the room.
