Summary

In Chapter 29, which returns to Ella’s narration, Leroy was back. Ella had gone to Cammy’s house to seek refuge. Ella watched as Claudia braided Cammy’s hair and wished that Claudia was her mother. Claudia mentioned that she had heard Ella was spending time with Katherine and warned her not to become too comfortable around her.

In Chapter 30, during one of Ella’s visits to Katherine, Ella begged to know about the topic of Katherine's thesis. Finally, Katherine told her that she was researching the impact of the Black migration in the 40s and the Civil Rights movement of the 60s on Southern society.
