Los Angeles

"Frame," "Lure," and "Red All Over" all take place in Los Angeles during the speaker's childhood. It is unclear exactly what time these poems take place during, but it appears to be in the last half of the 20th century. This Los Angeles is changing; the speaker lives in an area that used to be rural, but has been shifting to a suburban/industrial setting. Tensions are high for the farmers whose way of life is being pushed out, but those in the new neighborhood are unbothered. There is still lush plant life here, and the speaker sees beauty in the avocado trees and bougainvilleas around her.
