Summary

In Chapter 47, Jean takes the folder into the half bathroom, away from the camera. She considers that her life is better than that of Winston Smith, who had only one spot in his apartment where Big Brother could not see him. She reads in the folder that the goal of her team is to: “Develop, test, and mass-produce anti-Wernicke serum” (200). The goal for the gold team is to: “Develop, test, and mass-produce Wernicke serum” (201). The goal of the red team is to: “Explore water solubility of Wernicke serum” (201).

In Chapter 48, the next morning, Steven is gone. They find a note stating he has gone to look for Julia.

In Chapter 49, Del is headed toward their mailbox before Jean notices the black SUV parked across the road and puts together the reality of the situation. She realizes that Patrick is working against the government...
