Part 3, Salvage: Chapters 33-41 Summary

Bass tells Pitt that he was a munitions expert in the Navy and in the fifties was assigned to oversee the development of a biological weapon. Experiments were carried out on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific called Rongelo. Vixen 03 was loaded with bombs that contained the biological weapon. After Vixen 03 disappeared, it was discovered that the biological agent continued to inhabit the island and that it would not be uninhabitable for at least three hundred years. This made the biological weapon, or Quick Death, too dangerous to use and it was destroyed. Bass now urges Pitt to remove the weapons from Vixen 03 and dispose of them.
