Chapter Three Summary
Stephanie calls Connie Rosolli, the office manager at Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, to get information on Sandy Claw's utility bills in hopes of tracking the fugitive. Just as Stephanie hangs up, her mother calls in hysterics. Valerie has taken a pregnancy test and has locked herself in the bathroom. Stephanie tells her mother not to worry, that Valerie will come out when she got hungry. Helen insists that Stephanie come over and do something to coax Valerie out of the bathroom, because it's the only bathroom in the house and they need it. Stephanie agrees to help.
For a moment, Stephanie relishes in the fact that Valerie's life is in the toilet. All through Stephanie's childhood, Valerie was perfect. Stephanie could not compare. Valerie had married and had two grandchildren, while Stephanie's marriage had ended before her father had paid off...
