Summary

Chapter 7 opens with Virgil taking notes at a committee meeting where they are talking about the Hard Luck Days festival. Don talks about being tired of his job as sheriff. He comments on why someone would go out in the “dead of winter, to steal fertilizer and wind chimes” (251). Rune’s wound heals and Bjorn continues to help Virgil at the Empress. Virgil and Bjorn go to see Marcus Jetty for some reclaimed wood for a repair at the theater. Bjorn asks Marcus about the wheel on his wheelbarrow because he thinks it is from the plane his dad flew. Nadine meets Virgil and Bjorn at the Empress with a picture of Alec next to the plane to see if they can match the wheel. They cannot know for certain. Rune is devastated by the discovery.
