Summary
In chapter 4, Lydia comes to ask Virgil to talk Adam out of speaking at the festival, even after Lydia convinced him to. Lydia is concerned Adam speaking will bring something bad to the town. Galen continues to fish for the sturgeon, but does not think it will take the bait. Virgil and Galen watch the fish come up, but swim away. Galen thinks the fish wants him next.
Chapter 5 opens with a raven visiting Rune while Rune works on a kite. Rune talks to the bird about his manners. Virgil looks for a cassette player so that Rune can listen to the cassettes Beeman gave him with Alec on them. Virgil runs into Lucy and they talk about Adam. Lucy talks about Adam and his brother Richard and the sibling rivalry between them. Lucy calls Adam a “prodigy” (193) of...
