Summary

In chapter 9, Virgil is vacuuming at the Empress and Jerry Fandeen arrives, asking for tools back that he lent Virgil. Virgil did not borrow any tools from Jerry, but lets Jerry take some tools from the basement. Virgil knows that Jerry and Ann are having trouble in their relationship and wonders if Jerry will be able to make his way back to Ann.

Chapter 10 opens with snow falling and Rune coming in to make dinner for he and Virgil. Rune makes hash and cleans up afterwards. Rune tells Virgil about his wife Sophie and how they wanted children, but were unable to have them. Rune explains that six weeks after Sophie died, Rune learned about Alec.
