Morris Island
An almost deserted island located off the coast of Southern Carolina, Morris Island is only four square miles in size. On the northern side, there are sand hills that are up to 40 feet in height. The western side is mostly dense marshland bordered by tidal bays and east of them is nothing but the Atlantic. There are only two man-made structures - the road (a one lane strip of pavement that crosses Lighthouse Creek to Rat Island and then finally meets the Folly Beach highway, passing Goat Island before going into the city) and the living complex (which consists of a 430 foot reinforced concrete structure containing ten town homes). Forty people in total live on the island, all employees or relatives of employees of Charleston University who had converted the Fort Wagner barracks to offer it as their offshore research facility.
