Fifteen years passed since Fenton Dawkins told Brian Limestone about the benefactor who gave a thousand dollars a year to the research librarian. Only two requirements came with it. He was never to tell, and if anyone came in asking for Katherine Heaton, Limestone was to contact the number enclosed. He tears open the envelope and tells the voice who answers what happened. Without a word, the line disconnects and Brian goes home. The next day at school Tory is unable to concentrate in class. Hannah, Tory and Jason plan to work on the weekend, exchanging numbers.
