Chapter 42-44 Summary
This chapter opens Part Three of the novel, murder in the south. The murder in Charleston appears similar to the murders in the California. In a seemingly quiet city, the public lives on edge. It is the first time such a murder occurred in Charleston, a sleepy and historic southern town.
Kyle Craig and Alex Cross enjoy dinner with Kate McTiernan, a former victim in a case. She escaped the Casanova serial killer. Now, she eagerly shares plans for her upcoming wedding. After an enjoyable evening, Craig admits he likes Kate and jokes about leaving his wife for her. Cross is now a firm believer in a vampire lifestyle. The FBI, with Cross's help, begins to connect other murders along the east coast. Cross compiles a list of cities in which similar murders occurred. To that, he adds cites of nonlethal...
