Chapter 12-16 Summary
At the San Francisco Police Department, Cross works closely with Hughes. They agree the murders and the facts surrounding them make no sense. Cross bemoans the fact that horribly gruesome murders seem to occur more commonly. Cross becomes further agitated when the Mastermind calls, letting Cross that he is aware that Cross now works in San Francisco. He taunts Cross for his supposed feeling toward Jamilla Hughes. Cross receives some encouragement when FBI detective Kyle Craig chooses to work the San Francisco case personally. Furthermore, in Jamilla Hughes, Cross sees some of his own drive. He admires the dedication to her job, despite her years of experience.
When the detectives learn of an old case baring similar characteristics, they rush to the graveside to exhume the body. Hughes drives them there.
