Feet o' Jesus takes the form of a prayer to Jesus by a person who is, or imagines himself to be, at the feet of Jesus. The poet asks that Jesus' mercy drift down on him, and that Jesus reach out his hand.
Feet o' Jesus Analysis
Feet o' Jesus is among the Hughes poems inspired by Gospel music and the natural formulations of the ordinary black people he began to spend time with in Harlem after leaving Columbia University. The poem, like the prayers and songs that inspired it, speaks to Jesus directly and intimately. Jesus is referred to as "ma little Jesus," and is the plea of a suffering man or woman.
