Summary

In Chapter 10, over time, “the conventions of the outside world lost their meaning” (134). Yuktasri spent her evenings convening with “the wild women of the forest” (135). She told Pampa they were afraid the “Foreign pink monkeys” would invade the forest, creating discord with the green and brown monkeys. (136).

Grandmaster Li and Zerelda grew close. When Zerelda became antsy to see the world, Pampa encouraged her to travel with Grandmaster Li. To protect them, she asked Aranyani for the gift of metamorphosis. Disguised as birds, Pampa accompanied Grandmaster Li and Zerelda out of the forest. She wondered about the couple's marital status during their journey, unsure if she was a bad mother. When Pampa later left the couple, she mourned the loss of another loved one.
