It seems that everything in Alison's early world was built on superficiality and people who did not really want to engage. Her parents raised her and her sisters but they really did not delve deep into their dreams and motivations; life was something to be survived, not enjoyed and treasured. When Alison lived as a teen in San Francisco, she was among people who only wanted to get high or do something to escape life.
