Summary

In Chapter 21, Riki looks over the destruction inside Vera's teahouse. The others arrive and Riki feels foolish for not comforting Vera himself. Vera refuses to tell the police and Riki guesses whoever broke in was looking for something. Vera is convinced it was the killer and Riki remembers how good he felt when he punched Marshall. He is ashamed, as he never hit someone before, but thinks he will be blamed for Marshall's death. They all decide to help with the shop and Julia offers Vera a place to stay. Riki is impressed by Julia's increasing confidence and Sana's compassion.

In Chapter 22, Vera arrives at Julia and Emma's apartment. Emma leads Vera to her tent and Vera is astounded by the beautiful photographs in the child's room. After Emma falls asleep, Vera asks about Julia's life. She reveals she dropped out of college...
