Summary
Maître asked Sharon about her other employers. She was careful to ask the right questions so Sharon did not detect her obsession with Madame Principaux (95). Before Sharon left for the day, Maître asked about the marriage certificate again, but Sharon deflected.
Maître went to the address Sharon had given her for Madame Principaux. Meanwhile, she worried about her appearance. She had never been pretty. As a child, she had long beautiful hair that her father had loved. His attitude changed towards her after she cut it. Her parents always seemed to fight about her appearance and weight.
Madame Principaux was not in, but the woman who answered the door said she would inform her of Maître’s visit. Maître doubted the information would be passed along.
