Summary
On the way home from work at a temp agency, Lucky recalls that when she was nine, her mother was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Her mother became more and more ill, less like herself, and Lucky moved in with Stella. Lucky recalls waking up every morning at dawn during her mother’s illness, unsure why, and she began writing. Lucky had long dreamed of becoming a writer but had never found success and was frequently discouraged.
