Part One: Chapters 5-6 (pg 58 - 82) Summary
Raine then decides to teach Alyx how to ride a horse. She is again unsuccessful at another task and Raine is exasperated. He tells her to lead his skittish horse back to camp. Alyx sings to the horse to calm him. She is shocked when Raine complains about her singing. Her entire life, people have praised her for singing. It is as if Alyx has been slapped in the face.
Gruffly, Alyx returns to camp, where she is accosted by Blanche, who demands for water to be brought from the lake. Because Alyx considers Blanche of a lower class than she, she refuses to help. Blanche is angered by Alyx's blatant disdain and threatens her. Just then, Raine enters the tent and he and Alyx eat their dinner. Raine tells Alyx they will...
