Pagnell's kind servant has secured Alyx the position of Raine Montgomery's new squire. Raine is called the king of outlaws because he heads a camp of convicts, outlaws, and misfits. King Henry has declared Raine a traitor due to a family feud between the Montgomerys and the Chatworths. Alyx is infuriated to discover she will be the servant to another pigheaded, selfish aristocrat like Pagnell. She continues to fume until she sees Raine. He is painfully handsome.
Alyx is shocked by Raine's good looks, but also enraged that he is an aristocrat. Raine asks to meet and speak with his new squire, but he is shocked by the "boy's" aggressive hostility.
