Part 1, Chapter 4 Summary
Lestat takes his mother's advice and goes into the village to see Nicolas. They share a few bottles of wine together and get drunk as they relive their childhood memories. They go on to discuss philosophy and religion. Lestat's mother is correct that they have a lot in common. They talk about their loneliness and where their lives are headed. They both seem to be going nowhere. Lestat cannot go anywhere and Nicolas is giving up a sanctioned career by his father so that he can play the violin. Lestat makes him bring the violin to play it and when he does he becomes overcome with emotion. He is so moved by Nicolas' playing that Nicolas has to carry him home.
