Part 1, Chapter 3 Summary
Lestat is feeling recovered from his trial with the wolves when he receives visitors from the village. It is Nicolas de Lenfent and his father who are rich merchants. They bring a gift of a fine red cloak lined with wolf's fur from the wolves that he killed as a thank you. After the visitors leave, Lestat's mother encourages him to visit the young Nicolas in town as she thinks they will have a lot in common. She thinks they will get along splendidly and it will drive his brothers mad and please Nicolas' father who cares about social status. It is also Gabrielle's way of pushing Lestat out into the world. It is the closest he can get to actually leaving home.
