Part 1, Chapter 2 Summary
It is days after Lestat kills the wolves when his mother goes to see him. Lestat and his mother share an understanding that goes years back when she first sends him to a monastery to receive an education. It goes badly for him when he claims he wants to take vows and his brothers drag him back home. To make him feel better, his mother buys him hunting materials and allows him to pick two dogs, the mastiffs. When he is sixteen, Lestat runs off with a traveling theatre troupe. This too infuriates his family and they come to take him home once again. Gabrielle explains to Lestat that she too knows what it is like to live as a prisoner. She says that she has felt trapped for years and is unhappy with her life. She wants to live free...
