Gender and Class Divisions
The society of the Moroi vampires is filled with class divisions. These are exacerbated by the physical differences between those in different classes. Vampires need to feed on humans or dhampir, and their saliva is addictive. That creates a symbiotic relationship between Moroi and others, but in this symbiotic relationship, the vampires look down on those addicted to their saliva. The dhampir cannot reproduce except with Moroi, so dhampir are dependent on the Moroi. Moroi look down on dhampir, distaining to marry them and looking down on the women as sex toys while relying on them to be guardians and protectors.
