Anne, December, 1945 Summary
Anne Welles, Henry Bellamy, and Lyon Burke travel to New Haven, Connecticut to attend the premiere of Hit the Sky. Anne talks to Neely before the show; Neely is excited about appearing onstage and that she lost her virginity to her boyfriend, Mel Harris. Anne is shocked by the specific details Neely provides. After the show, Anne, Henry, and Lyon meet with Gil Case, the show's producer, to discuss it. They agree that Helen was excellent but that Terry King—the actress playing the second female lead (the role that Neely understudies)—is too attractive and that her success will upset Helen. At a party after the show, Helen demands that Terry be cut from the production because she does not want to be used to launch some upstart's career.
