Summary

In Chapter 24, Alosha believes they are still in danger. Agnieszka reveals Sarkan's theory that Hanna might have brought something with her. Alosha suggests Agnieszka use the Summoning spell and suggests Solya could cast it with her. She says another wizard, Ragostok, will do it if Solya refuses. She reveals that Ragostok is her great-great-grandson and, though not powerful, is obedient. Agnieszka is upset at the thought of such a long life, but Alosha says people find something to give their lives meaning, such as the years Ballo spent working in the library. Agnieszka tries to reassure herself that she will find work to give her life meaning, but the relationships she will sacrifice seem more important.

Agnieszka finds Marek and Solya together, but Solya refuses to help with the Summoning. Agnieszka realizes she should have made Solya into an ally after all. Marek...
