Denver, Colorado is the opening location of the novel where Logan and Nadine initially detain Soren. It is here where Logan inadvertently gets his mother’s upgrade after Soren leads him into a trap. Furthermore, Logan goes through his entire upgrade process in the local ER while nobody realizes what is actually happening to him. Later on in the novel, it is discovered that Miriam’s secret lab was actually also in Colorado near the town of Silverton. This is where Logan confronts Kara about releasing the upgrade.

Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C is Logan’s hometown and where Beth and Ava live. Early on, the author shows that Logan has a happy and stable life in D.C. However, after the upgrade takes hold and Logan is forced to run away, he recognizes how idyllic D.C has become compared to the suffering experienced by others...
