Summary

Part One opens with a quote by Erwin Chargaff who says most advancements can be stopped, but new life will persist.

Chapter One opens as the narrator, Agent Logan Ramsay, and his partner, Nadine Nettmann, arrest Henrik Soren. On the way into the city, Soren asks if Logan is the son of Miriam, but neither says why it is important. Logan thinks of his family- wife Beth and daughter Ava- as Nadine passes billboards condemning gene editing. One mentions The Great Starvation and Logan swallows his guilt.

In the Denver office of the Gene Protection Agency, Logan tells Soren they will find any genetic information he has hidden. Soren denies any wrongdoing, but Logan mentions Soren's involvement in genetic trafficking and the illegal DNA modifier system, Scythe. Soren demands a lawyer, but Nadine claims they will turn Soren over to China...
