Choice v. Life
An underlying theme in the story of the Unwinds is the modern-day issue of pro-life versus pro-choice sentiments. The concept of unwinding had arisen during what was termed “The Second Civil War” or the Heartland War. This war was fought on one overarching issue much as the first civil war was. The issue was different, of course. The first civil war was fought over slavery although there were other minor issues involved. The second civil war was fought over abortion.
The controversial subject of abortion is one that rages today in the hearts and minds of certain sectors of the population and in the halls of Congress.
