Chapter 3

In Chapter 3, Maise’s mother wakes her early to take her shopping. Maise is suspicious of her mother’s intentions. Maise is surprised when her mother pays the bill for more than $240 without balking. Her mother buys lunch at the food court. Maise expects a blowup at any time but her mother suggests they see a movie.

That night Maise tries to find information about Evan on the Internet but is unable to find little. She also researches information on age of consent laws in their state. Even though they are legal, Maise realizes if they are caught, Evan would probably be fired and not allowed to teach again. She hears a loud crash and goes downstairs.
