Structure
As a whole, the book is structured into three parts. The first is titled “caged,” [sic] and explores both the author’s past experiences and her broader-picture theories on how she and other female-identified persons struggle with having their identities defined for them by outside forces. The second part of the book is titled “Keys,” and explores the author’s perspectives on different sorts of psychological and emotional “keys” that she used to unlock her own cages, and that she believes other women can use to unlock theirs.
The third part of the book is the most substantial of the three in terms of length and content. Its title is “free,” and examines a range of ways in which the author experienced personal freedom. She extends her contemplations of those ways into suggestions or offerings as to how other women can claim their own freedom, and celebrate...
