Summary
“Whale Grandpa,” tells that the ancestors of whales were small land creatures that evolved to live in the water. Sapiens, however, never evolved to become water creatures. When they migrated across the land and reached the water, they built boats and canoes from wood.
A group of adventurous people sailed out to see if there was land past the water. Their journey took them to Australia, which Harari describes as one of the more important events in history. Harari relates that the moment when people successfully reached Australia was the moment that people became the most dangerous creatures in the world.
In “Australia’s Giants,” the people who first landed in Australia encountered huge animals they had never seen before. There were giant kangaroos as well as a lion-kangaroo hybrid.
