Summary
In “Food Memories,” Harari indicates that we crave sweet and fatty foods because it is a memory of the way our ancestors lived. Since they often did not know when their next meal would come, it made sense for them to binge on sweet, fatty foods. Based on the statues of women found from the Stone Age, women were all full-figured. Harari uses the statue of the Venus of Willendorf as an example. Fat was a sign of health and success.
In “The Young Archaeologists,” Harari writes how four teenagers found the painting of a wild horse in Lascaux Cave in France. Similarly, it was an eight-year-old girl Maria Justina, who noticed the paintings of bulls and other creatures on the walls and ceilings of a cave while her father, Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, was intent on exploring the floor...
