Eileen Lydon

Eileen Lydon is the central character of "Unread Messages." She is a 29-year-old woman who lives in Dublin, Ireland. Eileen works at a literary magazine as an editor. She has one older sister, Lola, who is getting married. Eileen has had a number of important relationships over her life, many of which were long-term. Eileen is a representative of the millennial generation; she frequently checks social media and uses it to see what her ex-boyfriend, Aidan, is doing. Eileen has been friends with Simon Costigan since they were children, but their age difference of five years made the nature of their relationship questionable in the beginning. Both Eileen and Simon live separate lives, but speak frequently and come together occasionally to support one another or even have brief romantic involvement.
