Summary

Chapter 29 - Kennedy visits Jared the next morning and Jared tells her that he doesn’t want her there, and that no one else is to come visiting anymore. Jared tries to get her to leave as no one knows what to do with him, and he doesn’t want to see her get hurt. He wraps his hands around the metal bars, his skin burning. Kennedy tells him that she knows he would never hurt her, just as Jared surges between the bars and grabs her throat. Andras has taken over Jared and tells her that she is wrong and then calls her little dove. Kennedy realizes the boy she loved is now truly gone.

Chapter 30 - Alara finally returns, disgruntled about not finding the Shift. After Alara recounts her tale Kennedy retreats to the Athenaeum with Faith’s journal. She is...
