Summary
Despite having more or less resigned herself to a life without romance, Phelps-Roper had a “major stumble” (110) at 24. She met an Israeli salesman at the mall and her family encouraged her to invite him to dinner, hoping to convert him. He did come to dinner, but was not converted. Later, he invited Megan back to his apartment. She met him outside, knowing she could not go in, but the Israeli's roommate came outside and jokingly snatched her purse, taking it in with him. When she followed him in, the Israeli tried to kiss her, and as much as she wanted to kiss him back, she told him no and left.
