Chapter 15 Summary
Almost as soon as he had left Magdalen's hotel, James began feeling ill about what he had done in refusing the job offer. Money was the most important thing in the world. He had longed for it. Craved it. Now he had turned it away. What had he been thinking? He sat if a café, drinking Pernod trying to dull his pain and then sent a telegram to Dave and Finn telling them what he had done. His need to share his grief was overwhelming. Then he walked and walked the streets of Paris on that July day. If he had lost the money, maybe he could find Anna. Maybe she was still there and not on her way to America. He called old friends but no one knew where she was. He called hotels but she was not at any of those...
