Almost as soon as he had left Magdalen's hotel, James began feeling ill about what he had done in refusing the job offer. Money was the most important thing in the world. He had longed for it. Craved it. Now he had turned it away. What had he been thinking? He sat if a café, drinking Pernod trying to dull his pain and then sent a telegram to Dave and Finn telling them what he had done.
