Summary

In Chapter 11, Ijeoma arrives at the home of the grammar school teacher and his wife. They greet Ijeoma with warmth, but Ijeoma feels awkward, sad, and out of place. They show Ijeoma to a small hovel behind the house; the hovel where Ijeoma will reside. It soon becomes apparent that the teacher and his wife expect Ijeoma to essentially be an unpaid servant for them. Ijeoma hopes that she will be able to return to Ojoto soon, but she resigns herself to this situation for the time being. In Chapter 12, Adaora makes a sojourn to the southern village of Aba, which is rumored to be relatively untouched by the war.
