Chapters Four - Six Summary
Perry returns to the Tide compound where Vale and his son Talon are already asleep. He climbs to the loft and soon Talon burrows himself in the blanket beside him. Perry pulls the blanket back to see his nephew, and the smell hits him like a wave. He smells just like his mother Mila had when the illness had come on strong. Talon admits that his legs sometimes get numb and he can't scent as well, but he is no real pain. He asks what Perry brought him, but Audiles in the tribe can hear as well as he can smell, and Perry doesn't dare reveal it yet. Talon thought his uncle had left for good, and Perry admits he will have to leave soon, but for now tells Talon to sleep.
