Summary
“Christmas Eve 1953” presents regular American dad, Virgil Buell, who takes the Christmas presents into the house and spends a nice night with his wife and three kids. Around midnight, Virgil receives his yearly telephone call with his old friend, Amos “Bud” Boling. Virgil asks how his friend is doing, where he is, and, like every year, offers him a job which Bud refuses. The two were comrades in the Second World War, but Bud was an active soldier longer than Virgil as Virgil lost his leg and was sent home. Virgil is disappointed that Bud again refuses his offer of work and that he never has accepted the offer to visit his family.
