Summary
In Chapter 12, Acho addresses the topic of interracial relationships. America has a history of discriminating against interracial relationships. For example, in 1883, the Supreme Court upheld a law banning interracial sex/marriage. This decision was not reversed until 80 years later. There has also been social and political resistance against transracial adoption. Some of this resistance has even come from Black groups. Acho admits that, when he sees an interracial couple, he sometimes feels confusion and unsettlement; he adds that it is necessary to recognize and interrogate such feelings in oneself. He also advises people in interracial relationships to think deeply about the reasons they are in a relationship. He warns that people should be careful of fetishizing their partner or being fetishized.
