Uncle Monday
Uncle Monday is the story’s central character. He is highly mysterious, and the other residents of the small town know only that he is named Monday and that he is a conjurer of hoodoo magic. His arrival in the village was sudden; he was seen walking out of Lake Belle. He lives in a shack that he built or himself. He performs hoodoo services for the people in town and has been observed to have extraordinary powers, such as the ability to completely heal from severe wounds. He appears to be a symbol for the power and indomitable aspect of nature itself.
