Summary
The narrator reiterates the fact that there was one other hoodoo doctor in town. Her name was Ant Judy Bickerstaff. Judy was present in the town long before Monday’s arrival. Monday did not seem to mind Judy, but Judy resented Monday’s presence in the town. Judy had previously been the sole provider of hoodoo services. After Monday arrived, most people began to go to him for those services. Years passed, and the rivalry persisted, occasionally growing incrementally more pronounced. Judy began boasting that she could reverse any magic that Monday produced and even redirect the spell back at Monday himself. One day, Judy decided to go fishing.
