Summary
Anna's friends and co-workers struggle in the aftermath of the election. Everyone is anxious and some talk about the tech industry's "new burden of responsibility" in the face of these political changes (270). Eventually, Anna decides that the money and ease of lifestyle that comes with her tech job is not worth the burnout, repetition, and intermittent toxicity of the job. In early 2018, she leaves her job at the open-source startup, needing a change and wanting to write. Leaving was anticlimactic and Anna emptied her savings account to buy as many of her vested stock options as she could. As she waits for the stock paperwork, she worries that she has made a mistake by leaving the unassailable walls of power that the tech industry provides.
