Summary

Anna organizes a screening of the CEO's favorite movie after work, even though she had recently been criticized by a manager for being "a pleaser" (104). She wonders about the CEO and what he might think of her and his other liberal arts employees who look for meaning in their work. The CEO is a difficult person to work for and several of Anna's co-workers have to talk through their relationship with him in therapy. Anna, however, is reluctant to think of him as egomaniacal or vindictive; she likes him and appreciates people whose praise is hard-won. At his annual review, Noah, who was a well-respected employee demanded more autonomy, a raise, and an increase in stock options to reflect his contributions to the company, which he could quantify.
