Summary
At lunch with a co-worker, Anna realizes for the first time how successful her company is and how rare its success has been when ninety-five percent of startups fail. Every month, the company hosts an open house. Anna stands with the rest of the customer support team and feels powerful at this packed event featuring a fireside chat with venture capitalists. At the bar afterward, the CEO tells Anna that he would like her to eventually lead the support team and that "We need more women in leadership roles" (61). At the time, Anna does not think to tell him that the first step would be to hire more women and then to change the office culture that is likely to make women uncomfortable.
