Changing Fate

The beginning of the novel rides on the momentum that comes from strangers looking at Zanna in a telling, important way. Then Zanna and Deeba discover that Zanna is the chosen one, who is going to liberate UnLondon from the Smog, and Deeba feels left out and belittled beside her friend. But, when Zanna is injured by inhaling Smog, Deeba becomes the caretaker who will help her friend. When they arrive home, she suspects that there is more to the story than she has been told. By questioning the authorities around her (Brokkenbroll in particular), she takes her fate—and the fate of UnLondon—into her own hands.
