Summary
In Chapter 17, narrated by Tate in the present, Tate joins Corbin, Ian, and Miles for dinner. She learns that Miles has broken a company record and is the youngest pilot to make captain. Miles seems embarrassed by the attention. At the restaurant when Miles and Tate are alone for a moment, Tate congratulates Miles. He gives her a kiss on the side of her head.
During dinner, the men begin discussing relationships. When asked, Miles tells them that relationships are not worth the end result. Corbin assumes Miles’s last serious relationship must have been with a cruel woman. Miles does not answer. Tate can tell by Ian’s facial expression that he knows what happened. Tate also notices Miles give Ian an appreciative look when he changes the subject.
Corbin and Ian go to a bar to celebrate, but Miles asks Tate...
